Cycle & Meal Higher Poynton 04/08/2018

Steve & Allison W. organised a Saturday evening cycle and walk then meal from Higher Poynton to Bollington return to the Boars Head for the meal. The cyclists went on minor roads to Bollington where they stopped at the Vale Inn then returned along the Middlewood way. The walkers did a circuit around Lyme park return.

Steve and Alison W. led a Wednesday evening walk from the Navigation pub at Marple. We went along the Peak Forest canal then over Marple ridge past the now refurbished Romper to join the Macclesfield - Marple canal back to Marple. Some went onto the Navigation pub for refreshments.

Walk Stanage 22/07/2018

Madeline led a walk from Hathersage along Stanage Edge 8.5 miles. The day started with drizzle in Stockport but as soon as we travelled over Winnats pass the weather changed and 19 SWOG members enjoyed a warm sunny summers day. Near the end of the walk we visited the church yard where lies Little Johns Grave. Then we all enjoyed refreshments.

Walk Higher Poynton 18/07/2018

Peter H. led a Wednesday evening walk from Nelson pit car park E into Lyme Park S then W onto the North Cheshire Way onto the Marple-Macclesfield canal then N back to Nelson pit. Most then enjoyed a refreshing drink in the Boars Head beer garden. 25 members 3 others joined us later on a warm summers evening.

Walk Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt Edges 15/07/2018



Paul and Pam D. led a walk from Baslow car park (toilets and sweetshop) N onto Baslow, Curbar and Froggatt Edges, Grouse Inn , Longshaw Lodge (toilets and teashop). Then turning W then S Padley Gorge , Grindleford railway station (teashop ) at Nether Padley we followed the D V H Way (Derwent Valley Heritage Way ) back to Baslow 13 miles. 10 members enjoyed a hot sunny day.

Chris H. led a Thursday walk from Eyam N past the YHA , Ladywash mine onto Sir William Hill Road. E then NE over Eyam Moor then W past Tor farm to Stoke Ford then SSW towards Bretton. SE then towards Eyam. Near Highcliff we saw some escaped piglets . Back to Eyam. 7 of us enjoyed a warm dry day.

Our Route took us along the Bridgewater canal to Dunham village then Dunham Massey Park where we saw Fallow Deer then ice creams and lunch then to Little Bollington then over fields towards Heatley then canal again turning off through Lymm return . ASome visited the Golden Fleece Pub .

Walk Rose Hill 27/06/2018

Jack M. led a Wednesday evening walk from Rose Hill Marple. We went S along the Middlewood way then W across Stockport Golf Club into Shearwater housing estate N to A626 NE to the Hare and Hounds pub then E along the river Goyt then S near Marple Dale Hall returning to Rose Hill. Some members went into the Railway pub after the walk for refreshments. 37 people & 3 dogs enjoyed a pleasantly warm dry walk.

Walk Southport 27/05/2018

Jack led an extra walk not on the program. Parking at Formby going by train to Southport then following the Sefton Way and beach dunes and coast back to Formby via the red squirrel reserve. We saw one red squirrel and hundreds of Natterjack Toad tadpoles in the brackish dune pools. Only 8 people + Gina the dog went as most members were away for the Bank Holiday. A very hot day with 2 heavy short showers gladly the forecast thunder storms did not happen. 12 miles.

Walk Offas Dyke 20/05/2018

Steve H. led a walk 20/05/2018 starting at the free car park opposite the Ponderosa Cafe at the top of the Horseshoe pass near Llangollen . We went E. following microwave towers until we joined Offas Dyke then S. to Worlds End then S. under limestone cliffs, then near Rock farm we joined a minor road S. then SW.  Along another minor road then E. to join the Clwydian way N. passing Valle Crucis Abbey. We then followed the Clwydian way N then E all the way back to the car park.
A very hot day with some suffering from the heat . 12 miles only 7 members due to many regulars being on holiday.
