Walk Earby 08/09/2019
Cary led a walk from Earby 08/09/2019 16 miles.
Cary wrote:- The early start and promise of a 17 mile walk attracted but 3 to accompany the leader (Phil hadn't noticed the announced distance). We set off at 10:15 in warm sunshine, wondering how long Mark would last with the ballooning hand that had kept him up until 2am seeking medical treatment. Elevenses at 11:15 on Pinhaw Beacon was accompanied by a cool breeze, Phil reading the Times, the promised panorama Northwards towards the Yorkshire Dales and West towards Pendle Hill. Following the Pennine Way pub stop number 1 of the day was in Lothersdale, but we actually took lunch on the lower slopes of Earl Crag (as Phil read the Times) before a short climb to Wainman's Pinnacle and (some of us) climbing Lund's Tower. The length of the day began telling on us, but we were miraculously revived at the pub at Black Lane Ends, so somehow the last 5 miles, in beautiful evening sunlight following the Pendle Way, seemed somewhat easier than the previous 3. We finished at 7pm!

Cruise Manchester Ship Canal 31/08/2019
Jack M. organised a cruise from Salford Quays along the Manchester Ship Canal to Liverpool.
Jack wrote:- On 31st August, 24 of us set out from Salford on a cruise down the Manchester Ship Canal to Liverpool. After a brief period of rain, it cleared up and we were able to go up on deck. There were many interesting features as we sailed down the historic canal on the Royal Iris, one of the Mersey Ferries. Eventually we reached Liverpool where we had a two hour break before returning to Salford by coach.
