Cycle Ride – Tatton & Knutsford – 30 miles
It was pleasing to witness a record turnout of 13 members for a cycle ride . Harvey led a faster route in the morning via Henbury and Chelford before meeting us at the Railway pub in Mobberley for lunch.The rest of us cycled via Styal utilising the Manchester Airport orbital route before continuing to Ashley, Rostherne and Mobberley. The morning was interesting as some members had failed to read the blurb re relaxed pace so leader"( Sue)  got left behind !!This resulted in the group witnessing the wrath of Mrs Hudson for the first time in the pub.However all ended well with coffee at Joan's house and most members thanking us for a most enjoyable day. Please keep up the cycling Sue Hudson PS  Keep on supporting the cycle rides ! Great fun!

An impressive start to the cycling season as all five participants cycled from home to the start point in Woodford . From there  we cycled  through Mottram and  up the Birtles Hill  ( a bit of a burner was the quote from one of the  participants of a Sportif  ) to our lunch stop at the Harrington Arms in Gawsworth ,where we enjoyed homemade chips and sandwiches with a Blondie for Paul.



 We returned against the wind via Lower Withington and Alderley Edge - a total of 30 .6 miles. Well done to all. Sue Hudson

Tour De Cheshire 8 JUly

Three riders set off from the Deanwater, Woodford on Sunday for a gentle tour of the Cheshire lanes unlike the Tour de France which was also taking place on the same day. Keith (who had been a member of the group many years ago) is a regular cyclist and knew some quiet lanes and some off road tracks that were not on my original route which we did which were virtually traffic free.

We got to our lunch stop the Crown at Goostrey, a Marston's pub which has a new landlord and three decent beers on and a good menu (but we kept up the SWOG tradition of having our butties on a bench just before we got to the pub). We also met some other cyclists from the Cheshire Road Club who were also having a pint at the pub.

The route back to the Deanwater was a little hillier than going to the pub with a few little climbs up to Siddington and Gawsworth and a fantastic descent to Prestbury. It did not rain at all during the day which made the ride all the more enjoyable as I think there is nothing worse than cycling in the rain. Just to cap of a good day when I got home Bradley Wiggins was still in the yellow jersey in the Tour de France.

Cycle Ride 17th april

I could not believe it there were 11 people on the ride (3 new people & Ali Ashton who has not been to the group for a while) and at the end the 7 who finished wanted to know if I was going to lead another ride, so I might do another one which will have to just go on the website and not the printed programme.

Yes, we did do a ride starting at 11am. The weather was mostly kind to us.

There were three families - us, the Lilleys (minus Catherine who was on a Brownie centenary day) and the Butlins. The two 5-year olds were towed by their dads, acting as an occasional 'booster engine'. We set out from Parsley Hay and cycled about 7 miles south on the High Peak trail, back in time for tea and before the second downpour of the afternoon.

Plenty left to explore for another trip!
