Denise's Walk 17 sept
As we drove to Chapel en le Frith, the tops of the hills
were shrouded in low cloud. Fortunately, not long after we started walking,
they lifted and the day became progressively brighter.
Six of us took the path to Breckhead and on up to Shireoaks,
a pretty old farm complex. On the way there were fine views of Chinley Churn
and South Head to the west and north. Dipping down a steep valley we paused for
morning snap on the turfed rail bridge just short of the long tunnel to Edale. Up to Malcoff and along the valley to Ford Hall, cutting left just before the Hall through wooded Peak lane, crossing Bolehill Clough and past Brettfield farm to drop down and up another steep valley.
A soft springy hump of heather provided a good lunch stop with views of Rushup Edge and the hills beyond Chinley.
Descending to Peaselows, the path then dropped down a steep incline to Bagshaw nestling in an enclosed valley.
Passing Slacke hall and Bowden Hall the road took us past a fishing pond to the bypass roundabout where we had started. Not a drop of rain, a few rays of sun and patches of blue with a well earned drink at the Fallow Deer after the 8 mile circuit.
