Sunday 17th July-Hilbre
Island
Twenty five of us assembled in the village of
Caldy to commence our walk to Hilbre Island in the mouth of the River Dee. Once
we had found the right road, we climbed up Caldy Hill to the viewpoint. From
here there was a good view of the Island and also right along the North Wales
coast as far as Anglesey.
After dropping down into West Kirby for a
refreshment stop we set off across the sands to the island. Here we had a
longish break for lunch, looking round or in some cases, sunbathing. We were
joined by a smaller party of about half a dozen who had chosen just to walk
from West Kirby.
On our return to the mainland we followed the
Wirral Way back to Caldy.
Most of us stopped at the Cottage Loaf pub for
a well earned drink, several staying for a meal.
I am pleased to say that the
good weather I ordered exceeded our expectations and it was an almost perfect
day.
