Alnwick trip 24 to 28/03/2016

John G. organised a stay at Alnwick YHA. We did bus trips and coastal and circular walks, visited historic castles, houses and monuments, had meals out and in the YHA and visited pubs.

John wrote:

The Easter weekend was spent at the Northumbrian medieval market town of Alnwick. 20 of us stayed at the comfortabe youth hostel and enjoyed a variety of costal and country walks and visits to interesting historic places like Alnwick Castle, Lindisfarne, Bamburgh and Berwick. The weather was fairly kind to us and we avoided the heavy rain and storms that ravaged other areas. The local hosteleries were well patronised and we enjoyed a very substantial meal out at the Black Swan on the Saturday night.

A good time seemed to be had by all!!

Pub night The Railway 18/03/2016

Ian Williams (deceased) had lodged The Railway at Portwood Stockport as his choice for a pub night on the program. Sadly he could only attend in spirit.

Walk and Wake Earl Sterndale 13/03/2016

Some members took the train or bus to Buxton. Chris H. lead a walk from Buxton Railway Station to the Quiet Woman pub in Earl Sterndale. Others met there to wake and celebrate the life of Ian Williams. Ian had left a large sum of money for his wake in this his favorite pub. Some then took the bus to Buxton market place and into the Kings another one of Ian's favorites, some then went to Weatherspoons for pub grub.  God bless you Ian

In a slight change to the published program ( Phil W. was ill ) Chris H. stood in to lead a similar walk around Ladybower . Chris H. said that he drove over the Snake Pass past the road closed signs.
The weather was cold on the tops but the sun shone most of the day.
